Blackwood Project 2001. Geoff Boucher

Program for June/July

Thanks all for another productive and enjoyable session. We have agreed to the following distribution of tasks and schedule, in relation to ethical politics:

Geoff: democracy (Giddens’ concept of the “democratisation of democracy,” the three main areas of democratic theory today — transparency of government, democratisation of everyday life and cosmopolitan democracy — and the question of democratic socialism).

Bill: social solidarity and the (re)creation of community

Andy: liberalism, communitarianism, equality

Fiona and Roger: the riseof a new universality

Anitra: environmental and technological ethics

Ken: “beyond Left and Right” — Giddens’ claim that morality transcends politics

Linda: I believe Linda might have to chose her own area to survey, once she has ‘read and inwardly digested’ the material.

We agreed to a preliminary e-mail exchange to maintain discussion, on or by Sunday 25 June.

We meet again on Sunday 22 July at 2pm, Blackwood. If people feel that this is too far to come for the next meeting, I am certainly open to the idea of having it in Melbourne.

Regards, Geoff.
